Recovery Challenges
Eastern Texas is only beginning the process of transitioning from rescue to recovery mode following Hurricane Harvey. Tens of thousands of homes, municipal sewer systems, water supplies, eletrical grides, etc.. need inspecting, with much of this infrastructure having experienced damage to one degree or another.
About 100,000 homes were damaged by Hurricane Harvey, President Donald Trump's Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert told reporters on Thursday. It is likely this number will dramatically increase as the waters recede and property inspections begin in earnest.
Public Health Challenges
The Eastern Texas area faces significant public health threats, including biohazards in flood water (warned of earlier today by AlertsUSA), but also respiratory and intestinal illnesses caused by living in crowded shelters, skin infections, and mosquito-born viruses as larvae hatch.
