Supplemental Info:
Three people were killed and more than 30 injured after a series of violent clashes erupted at a "Unite the Right" rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, on Saturday, on August 12, 2017. In the most extreme incident, 20-year-old James Alex Fields plowed his car into a group of counterprotestors, killing one person, 32-year-old Heather Heyer, and injuring 19.
Around 4:40 p.m. on August 12, a Bell 407 helicopter owned by the Virginia State Police crashed 7 miles (11 km) southwest of Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport, killing two Virginia state troopers who were on board and on the way to assist with security and public safety in the city.
The official "Unite the Right 2" anniversary rally is scheduled to take place Aug. 11 and 12 at Lafayette Park in Washington, D.C.
Citing public safety concerns, the City of Charlottesville has denied organizers a permit to hold the rally there this year. Despite the venue change, Charlottesville officials are preparing for the worst.
Caution and vigilance are urged if you will be in the vicinity of either location.
