Possible coup unfolding in Chad. US Embassy issues security alert urging citizens to maintain low profile and to avoid area near presidential palace. See email.

Location: N’Djamena, Chad


There are reports of gunfire and continued police and security presence and activity in the Klemat Neighborhood directly across from the ISOS Hospital. U.S. Citizens are instructed to avoid this area until further notice, and if in this area, to shelter in place.


The Embassy will continue to evaluate the situation and provide updates as appropriate.


Actions to Take:


  • U.S. citizens are reminded that demonstrations that may start peacefully have the potential to turn violent with little to no warning, and they are advised to avoid large gatherings, protests, and affected areas.

  • Avoid crowds and demonstrations.

  • Be aware of your surroundings.

  • Monitor local media for updates.

  • Review your personal security plans.

  • Keep a low profile.
