The 5-story Finsbury Park Mosque outside of which tonight's London vehicular attack occurred has been associated with al-Qaeda. Notable operatives previously attending this mosque include the "shoe bomber" Richard Reid, the "underwear bomber" Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, Zacarias Moussaoui (identified as a possible 9/11 conspirator and potential fifth hijacker on Flight 93), senior recruiter and motivator Anwar al-Awlaki, and Abu Hamza al-Masri, a radical Imam jailed as part of the Wood Green ricin plot.
This mosque has been raided on several occasions as part of counter-terrorism investigations and was closed in 2003, then reopened in 2005.
