Supplemental Info:
International Quds Day ("Quds" is the Arabic name for Jerusalem), is an annual event held on the last Friday of Ramadan that was initiated by the Islamic Republic of Iran in 1979 to express support for the Palestinians, as well as to call for the elimination of the State of Israel and the “liberation” of Jerusalem from the infidels.
Quds Day protests are observed throughout the Middle East, as well as in Western Europe, Canada and the United States under the auspices of pro-Iranian Muslim organizations, along with the support of numerous leftist groups seeking additional opportunities and venues for expression of rage. The events often include fiery speeches condemning Israel and the U.S. government, along with chants of "Death to Israel" and "Death to America." Previous U.S. Quds Day demonstrations have frequently numbered in the thousands. Counter-demonstrations are common, as is violence.
An interesting aspect to Quds Day demonstrations in Western Europe, Canada and the U.S. are the number of yellow and green flags present representing the foreign terrorist organization Hezbollah. Given the increasing tempo of antisemitic attacks in the U.S. and Europe, as well as the recent recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel through the move of the U.S. Embassy to the city, these demonstrations should be avoided. Caution and vigilance are urged.
