Florence is recovering from dry air and strong shear encountered in the last 48 hours. Now that the shear has decreased and the warm waters ahead reach deeper into the ocean, rapid strengthening is expected, with Florence reaching major hurricane intensity within 36-48 hours. The potential for landfall as a major hurricane is increasing significantly.
As pointed out in in our first Heads-Up message Thursday evening, state and federal agencies are paying close attention and recovery assets are starting to move. As such, East Coast residents and interests from northern Florida to N. Carolina should be paying very close attention.
AlertsUSA continues to monitor the situation closely and is in regular touch with the National Hurricane Center and contacts within the naval meteorology and oceanography community.
More information and preparedness resources are forthcoming.
