Historic flooding from Midwest storms is resulting in rapidly rising rivers.
Ericson Dam in north central Nebraska is at risk of failing as the Cedar River continues to rise. Officials in Boone County, downstream from the dam, are warning of the "imminent failure" of the dam.
Cooper Nuclear Station is located on the Missouri River near Brownville, Nebraska on Nebraska's border with Missouri. Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD) owns and operates the facility. NPPD issued a Notice of Unusual Event after the Missouri River reached 42.5 feet. At 7:30 a.m., the river was at 43 feet and was a foot away from overtopping the levee at Brownville. Water has filled ditches and begun to cross roads surrounding the plant. Sandbagging is currently underway.
Residents in Eastern NE and Western MO are urged to monitor local news for updates.
