U.S. Travelers in Europe
EUR Holiday Threat InformationThe December 11 attack at a Christmas market in Strasbourg, France, underscores the threats posed by transnational terrorist organizations and individuals inspired by extremist ideology. The Department of State reminds U.S. citizens traveling to Europe during this holiday season that security measures throughout Europe may be heightened due to these ongoing threats.
Extremists continue to focus on tourist locations such as Christmas holiday markets, shopping malls, airports, nightclubs, restaurants, places of worship, transportation hubs, and other public locations frequented by Westerners. Please check the website of the U.S. Embassy in the country you will visit for the most recent Security Alerts, and register your travel with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to get up-to-date safety and security information and help us reach you in an emergency abroad.
