The rally is being held to demonstrate support for individuals currently facing criminal charges in connection with their alleged participation in the breach of the US Capitol on 6 January 2021.
Over the next month, the same organizer has planned similar rallies in 15 other states. Event organizers have secured a permit for 700 attendees at the Washington, DC event.
Security preparations have ramped up across DC ahead of the event.
The Dept. of Homeland Security assesses that some individuals involved in or opposed to the “Justice for J6” rally may seek to engage in violence but lack indications of a specific or credible plot associated with the event.
DHS is aware of a small number of recent online threats of violence referencing the planned rally, including online discussions encouraging violence the day before the rally. Lone offenders and small groups of individuals can mobilize to violence with little-to-no warning, particularly in response to confrontational encounters with perceived opponents or calls for escalation by key influencers. The likely use of encrypted or closed communication platforms by those seeking to commit violence challenges law enforcement’s ability to identify and disrupt potential plotting In light of events that have transpired since the incident at the US Capitol on 6 January 2021, AlertsUSA strongly encourages the following: - Maintain a high level of situational awareness
- Proactively identify all exits in your vicinity
- Avoid ALL USGOV properties and buildings.
- Do not cross established barriers and fence lines, even if invited / waved through by law enforcement.
- If possible, leave your cellphone in your hotel room (or bring a Faraday sleeve).
Gather and demonstrate as is your Constitutional right, but be careful. From the near certain presence of groups such as Antifa and BLM, to law enforcement tension and concerns of another Jan 6th type of incident, to the guarantee of all manner of electronic surveillance, it is essential that caution be used. |
