SEED Madagascar

Hi Friend,

I hope this email finds you well in these strange times. Having previously bought a mask from the SEED Mask Exchange I wanted to write to say thank you again, and give you an update on the accomplishments that you’re very much part of. To date we’ve sold an incredible 1,414 masks generating an amazing £7,567.99 of charitable income. Funds generated have been utilised across the organisation, supporting COVID efforts and much more. For a taster, over the past six months, with your help we’ve accomplished the following (for full details see here):
  • 16,533 community members receiving handwashing information and demonstrations
  • 1,817 parents received information about COVID-19 prevention for new mothers and young children
  • 5,305 informational posters & flyers distributed throughout Anosy and Androy
  • 16,321 masks distributed
  • 23 health centres receiving on-going COVID-19 prevention training sessions
  • 142 health workers trained in Coronavirus prevention
It is an incredible tally and we’d like to thank every one of you who has helped by buying from the Mask Exchange. If you haven’t already done so, we’d invite you to join our monthly newsletter list and Facebook feed so you can keep in touch with the work which you have been supporting.

Should you wish to support the organisation’s work further you may wish to consider a donation as part of our Big Five Appeal here (we could do with the help!). If you’re still looking for unique, beautiful and ethical presents this Christmas you may also want to consider the Stitch Sainte Luce Cooperative embroidery products here – although there are just 24 hours left for pre-Christmas delivery!

Sadly, the most recent impacts of COVID to come to the fore in Madagascar are drought and rising food prices which are forcing south Madagascar towards famine. Whilst big agencies such as World Food Programme are helping in some areas, the communities which SEED serve have seemingly been overlooked. In January, we plan to start food distribution, focusing on mothers and children, with whatever resources that we can get and if you would like to contribute, there is a specific page set up here.

A huge thanks once again for everything that you have helped us accomplish and on behalf of the whole SEED team and the communities which you have helped, I’d like to wish you a very happy festive season.

Best wishes,
Mark
