Subject: Hi, Friend! As 2022 comes to a close, we want to say…

Thank you for another year of incredible support for SEED Madagascar 🧡

Hi Friend,

As another year comes to an end, we’re looking back on the highs and lows of 2022. Like the years before it, 2022 presented some unexpected and difficult challenges that have seen us supporting the community and environment through a tough year of emergencies, including food insecurity and fire.

However, we have worked side by side with the communities in Anosy towards recovery and, ultimately, laid the foundations for greater resilience in an unstable time. There is still much to do, but we’re very proud of the year's results, which have only been possible thanks to your generous support.

2022 Successes 🧵👭🐝

🦞 Under our Sustainable Livelihoods Programme, the Stitch Sainte Luce Cooperative emerged from pandemic challenges and returned to profit with sales for the year providing the embroiderers with crucial income support during a time of extreme price rises; The Mahampy Association is gaining strength with an extension of the studio started in October and some successful literacy sessions completed. Both Project Renitantely and Oratsimba have laid the foundations and partnerships necessary to flourish in 2023 and have some exciting activities on the horizon.

🌳 Our Conservation Programme has been revived after many months of drought and donors focussing on health projects. The team have been able to replant trees, carry out research trips - with some brilliant volunteers! - reinvigorating biodiversity protections and significantly building our knowledge of biodiversity in readiness for the challenging years ahead.

📚 Our Education Programme has grown dramatically, we have completed more schools in a year than ever before, not only providing education infrastructure for hundreds of children in the Anosy region, but also providing drinking water, toilets and sanitation facilities.

👩‍🍼Within Community Health, our food distribution project has grown to a scale that would have been unimaginable when we started. The awareness raised by the team and project donors has been immense. We have also seen a strengthening of the Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights network, culminating in an incredible conference of engaged and active stakeholders in November.

Thank you for your contribution to these successes, whether that be through donations and fundraising, sharing our stories on social media, or simply telling friends, family or colleagues about us. None of these great achievements could have been made without your generous help 🧡

Looking forward to 2023 🧺 🐝 👭 🌿👩‍⚕️

🌽 In the next 12 months, we’re aiming to build on the successes of 2022, bringing a greater focus to our Recovery & Resilience Programme off the back of this year’s Christmas Appeal and your generous donations through 2022. This Programme will bring together projects that are supporting longer-term security across finance, food and resources to enable the communities of Anosy to tackle the ongoing challenges they face due to climate change and economic instability.

🍯 Under Recovery & Resilience, the Mahampy Association is set to expand, enabling the members to generate more household income from a more diverse range of woven products, as well as ensuring the longevity of the reedbeds from which the products are made. Project Renitantely will continue to build market access and deploy training on honey production and hive health to maintain sustainable production and incomes.

🌱 Under our Conservation Programme we’ll be continuing to expand the corridors and establish long-term sustainable forest management in Project Ala, as well as carrying out vital research on lemurs, bats, chameleons, geckos, palms, and many other flora and fauna.

👩‍⚕️ And, in Community Health we’re building on the next phase of Project Votsira, aiding maternal and child health in rural communities, as well as building on the activities of the SRHR network and strengthening the goals of better sexual health education.

We’ve got big goals for the 2023 but it’s likely to be a tough year for fundraising. As ever, we’d appreciate any support you can give, particularly recurring donations, which help us to forward plan for projects and build sustained resilience for both communities and the environment in Madagascar.

Thank you again for all your fantastic support this year, we wish you a wonderful festive season and look forward to what 2023 will bring.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
