Hi Friend,

If you are already feeling overwhelmed with the start of the new school year - remember this:

"Time exists so you don't have to do everything at once". (Albert Einstein said that - not me - I can't claim it. But I have it written in huge letters on my office wall!!).

I feel it too, even though I'm no longer in a school setting. After a week in the Lincolnshire Wolds, today has been a huge shock to the system. But - we can do it! One task at a time.

This is my first email update of this year, and I hope it continues to be useful. If it is no longer relevant to you just click unsubscribe at the very end of this email, and that's one less email to sift through in future.

Training & CPD News

Printmaking as a Rich Learning Process - a Day Long INSET course with Nat Deane and Kerry Howarth is now available to book online. The course costs £120 (plus booking fee) including a lovely lunch & tea/coffee. All materials are provided. Plus you will be given a digital resource pack/handouts of the day’s activities. Course participants will be provided with a certificate of attendance.

This first course is taking place on Thursday the 20th of October at the stunning venue of the Community of the Resurrection. 9.15- 3.30 pm. The venue is in Mirfield, West Yorkshire which is served by a train station. A future course is planned for the Manchester/Cheshire border in the Spring Term.

This next item is for YORKSHIRE BASED schools and education settings

Due to the popularity and positive feedback from last years online sessions - IVE have asked me to deliver a 'new season'. I'd recommend booking on asap as they fill up FAST! (But they don't start until October, so you have time to catch your breath!)

These FREE sessions are designed for anyone who has wondered whether their school could be eligible for grant funding for musical instruments, specialist artists, ICT equipment to enhance digital media or even funding to take students to a gallery, a show or performance.

MOD Education Support Fund (ESF)

The Trust has partnered with the MOD to administer the MOD Education Support Fund (ESF). This programme provides funding to schools to help mitigate the effects of exceptional mobility and/or separation faced by Service children.

Applications invited from publicly funded schools, academies and free schools and sixth form colleges throughout the UK who meet the eligibility criteria.

Local authorities can also apply in support of these schools.

Groups of schools can also apply (cluster bids). Schools in a cluster can also apply individually if it is for a different initiative.

Applicants must have Service children on roll whose parent(s) are subject to mobility and/or separation; and be able to evidence the negative impact of this. Further guidance on what we mean by mobility/separation is available below

Closing 30 September 2022

The Our Local Nature grant scheme is designed to provide young people with an opportunity to take the lead on projects that involve their local nature and natural spaces, to aid young people in realising their influence, to have their voices heard, and see their ideas come to life.

We therefore fund innovative projects that are designed and led by young people in the UK.

Adult applicants should develop their proposal alongside young people and the projects should seek to empower local young people to enact changes they want to see, increasing access to natural spaces and improving understanding of the local biodiversity.

The maximum award is £1,000 per proposal. We welcome and encourage applications for significantly lower amounts - in the last two years we have funded a wide spread of projects ranging from £150 to £1,000. The Society is happy to co-fund any project with other organisations.

This grant is purposefully broad and welcomes novel ideas. Some examples of possible proposals could be: running a school festival about nature; painting community murals showcasing biodiversity in the area; building a community garden; creating a nature walk; hiring a speaker to come and talk about local foraging.

Woodland Trust - Free trees for schools and communities have two delivery periods per year, one in March and one in November. They are currently taking applications for trees to be delivered in MARCH 2023.

Applications for March delivery are expected to close in mid-December or sooner depending on stock availability.

Foyle Foundation - School Library Scheme accepts applications from state funded schools in the United Kingdom. The scheme recognises that there is no statutory requirement for schools to have a library and that many school libraries are in a poor state through underfunding and underdevelopment. Encouraging children to read widely from an early age will provide a major boost to improving literacy levels, which is a key educational objective.

Priority is given to primary schools. Do not consider applications to the Foyle School Library Scheme from nursery/early years only establishments. Schools can apply for between £2,000 and £10,000.

Application Reminders!

Henry Smith Charity - Holiday Grants are accepting applications from 1st July until 30th September for school trips taking place in the Winter Term.

I had to explain to a food vendor last week that Gluten Free really isn't the same as vegan! I was a bit taken aback with the knowledge gap within a catering business - but I know from personal experience how confusing it can all be.

So just in case this is another issue you are dealing with, here's a bit of help.....

If you have children at your school with coeliac disease, it’s important you know about their condition and how you can best support them in their daily school life. Going to school can be very daunting for a child who usually relies on their parents/carers to help keep them safe when eating out of the home.

Coeliac UK have some excellent free resources for schools on their website

Finally

I tend to receive a lot of information about potential grant funding for schools, enrichment activities, training and professional development and community support resources during September.

I'll probably be in touch a couple more times this month, just to try and keep the updates a more manageable length.
