Back In At The Deep End ...
Hi Friend,

U.S. Gross Domestic Product, Second Quarter 2023
Tom Daley has announced plans to try for a place on Team GB's Olympics diving team after a two-year break from the sport.

The 29-year-old won gold in the synchronized competition at the Tokyo Olympics but he hasn't competed since.

He's now revealed plans to return to the sport and shared the sweet reason for his decision ...

"I am not ready to be done and I don't think I was ready to be done. I am not ready to hang up my trunks and move on from that part of my life. Especially when my son Robbie said ""Papa, I want to see you dive at the next Olympics."

Back In At The Deep End ...

So Tom Daley is Back In at the deep end. So too I have decided to go back in at the deep end, a return to publishing The Saturday Economist and related publications on a regular basis.

The last twelve months have been a period for pause and reflection for personal and family reasons. I did lose the appetite for publishing just a little bit.

The research and writing continued. Our "What The Papers Say"" Morning review was maintained as we scan almost twenty titles each day. The Friday Forward Guidance, The Saturday Economist and Monday Morning Markets website pages survived.

I am not ready to hang up my trunks. I have been at this process for quite a long time!

I have been studying economics for almost 60 years ...
It was September 1964 when I picked up my first economics text book. It was Richard Lipsey "An Introduction to Positive Economics"". I was fifteen years old. It was the year we started our A Levels  Fast Track.

 I did my PhD in 1990 ...
I was 40 years old when I started my PhD and was 45 when I completed my thesis on UK International Trade and the Balance of Payments.

We launched The Saturday Economist over 12 years ago ...
I had always wanted to publish an economics quarterly and did that in the 1990s. When I came back to the U.K., the Saturday Economist was launched in February 2012, with significant updates on economics and financial events. Since then ....

Almost 600 updates on the UK and world economy ...
We have published almost six hundred updates on the UK and World Economy. Coverage has expanded to included Friday Forward Guidance and Monday Morning Markets.

Every week we update our scenario forecasts for base rates in the U.S., UK and Europe over a three year period. Every week we update our analysis of equities, bond yields, exchange rates, commodity prices and crypto.

The Case Studies Continue ...
Our case studies on strategy continue. The Apple, Lego, Yahoo and Twitter Case Studies have long been established. In April this year we published The Silicon Valley Bank Case Study. That's a great read.

I write with an optimism bias and a contrarian bias
I avoid doom and gloom and sensationalist headlines. Let's face it, there are lots of options for that. Our research reverts to first principles. "In God we trust ... all others must bring data" Deming.

We are contrarian and challenge. We have written on "What's wrong with policy at the Bank of England", "Things they should not teach you about economics", "What's wrong with QE", "The Problem with Planet ZIRP" and "The Great UK Devaluation Myth".

In our weekly updates. We explore the fascinating world of money, markets, and everything in between. Our expert analysis is dedicated to delivering the latest news, insights, and analysis on all things economics.

So back in at the deep end, Thanks for your support of the past few years. It is much appreciated
