[Saint] Gianna’s Garden at Calvary Catholic Cemetery & Chapel Mausoleum In Manitowoc, WI [Article appeared in Saint Francis of Assissi’s Parish in Manitowoc, WI bulletin] |

At the Calvary Catholic Cemetery and Chapel Mausoleum, they acknowledge the painful loss of miscarriage in Gianna’s Garden named after Saint Gianna Beretta Molla.
For some, the miscarriage happens alone at home, and for others this occurs in hospitals. Wherever it happens, the pain and sorrow may exist throughout the life of parents, grandparents, friends, and relatives.
Our sorrowful Mother Mary knows the pain of loss and offers mothers, fathers, family, and friends healing through her son, Jesus. This otherwise silent and unspoken loss can find comfort in our faith.
Please know that Calvary Cemetery offers burial for the baby, free of charge, in Gianna’s Garden. If baby remains are possible to collect, please contact Calvary Cemetery for assistance with burial. If no remains are collected, please know that a prayer service is still possible. Private visitations are highly encouraged whenever it fits your schedule. Possibly a visit to the garden will bring some peace. Parents who receive the devastating news of loss may not know that burial of the baby is an option without barriers. This garden is a place of dignity for the child and a place to peacefully remember that Jesus welcomed the child into His arms.
As Catholics, we are called to respect life from conception. We invite anyone and everyone to visit the garden for a time of prayer and healing. Please keep this as a reminder for anyone, of any faith, that you may know who may experience a miscarriage. This is where our faith meets our communities’ most painful moments. This is where our community accompanies the grieving. This is where the otherwise unspoken can find healing.
Please pray for greater respect for life from conception to natural death in our community, country, and world. If you know of someone who is carrying the loss of miscarriage and could use support, please have them call the parish office. We know various mothers who have walked this journey, who would walk with you through your grief and healing. If you have any questions, please call Calvary Cemetery or the parish office. Holy Mother, pray for all who grieve this day and that we may respond with the love of Jesus.
