LANDLORD'S BIRTHDAY BASH
Getting to be a bit of an institution on the Sunday closest to January 26th, happy to announce it's happening again on 27th and we are fortunate to have something danceable and uplifting to entertain you in the form of GROOVE PLC read on...........
It's come around again, Landlord's birthday bash. You might remember last year when you were blown away by THE SOUL FUNK JUNKIES, who sadly split up about six months ago, but fear not they are back for the next birthday bash only they have a new line-up and a new name...
GROOVE PLC; SUNDAY 27 JAN 5.30PM
Groove PLC is a brand new band that formed in mid 2018 from three remaining members of The Soul Funk Junkies (Zoe - vocals, Chris - guitar and Ken - drums). They auditioned for a new bass player mid 2018 and Rob was recruited. They immediately began rehearsing old and new material to form a live set, still focusing on funk and soul but looking to add new material from artists such as Chaka Khan, Level 42, The Chimes and Paul Young.
Phil joined the band in late 2018 to joined Zoe on vocals. Together they bring a new vocal dynamic to the band and open it up to a broader range of material. As a collective the band have over 100 years of live playing and performance experience.
The band is very much looking forward to playing the Dog and Partridge, an old stomping ground for some of the members and an opportunity to test run this new band. The intention is to expand the repertoire and instruments within the band throughout 2019 as well as increase their live set and performances. Technology has been used to expand the sound to bring a more authentic experience for the audience on some of the songs.....what does that mean??? You need to be there to experience it!
THE MOST UGLY CHILD; SUNDAY FEB 3RD 5.45PM The Most Ugly child are a six piece band influenced by Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt and George Jones to Tom Waits with little bit of Led Zeppelin thrown in.There is an edgy realness to everything they sing and play with a natural depth of feeling rather than having been subjected to any overt polishing or sanitization. This their third visit to the D&P, if you caught them on previous visits you already know what great things to expect, if it's your first time seeing this band where the hell have you been?
MOD 'N JAM; SUNDAY 10TH FEB 5.45PM
Mod ’n’ Jam does exactly what the name says – a tribute to the classic mod sounds of the 60s, 70s and 90s. Adopting a 3-piece lineup of guitar, bass and drums, the band has been playing at clubs and pubs in the Burton area since 2016, and comprises players with many years’ experience on the cover band and tribute circuit.
Mod ‘n’ Jam feature two 45-minute sets, focusing on classic mod tracks from the 60s – including hits by The Who, The Kinks and the Small Faces – together with a large selection from the back catalogue of The Jam, plus new wave covers from Buzzcocks, The Clash, The Undertones and many more. With the right guitars and the right clothes, Mod ‘n’ Jam is about looks as well as sound, and our gigs are attracting a dedicated mod audience, as well as appealing to all fans of energetic live music.

Making Shit Happen by Carl Pate This is a self help book based around personal productivity. It’s not about the Big Bangs and Magic Bullets. The secret sauce that you need to spread over everything that you do, and which will give you more rewards than you could ever dream possible, is CONSISTENCY. In this book you will learn how this powerful, and yet under-utilised, “secret” will transform everything that you do. Carl Pate spent 27 years of his career in senior financial roles in large organisations, including 16 years as CFO in a £150m clothing manufacturer. But it was his love of personal development and desire to make the very most out of every minute of his life that drove him into a second career, and the creation of Productivity Powerhouse, where he now helps small business owners and entrepreneurs all around the world to master how they spend their time. Carl has consolidated almost 30 years of learning and practical implementation of these skills into the structure that he calls the 5 Pillars of Awesome. The first 3 pillars will build the foundational structure from which everything else emanates. The fourth pillar offers practical tips, tricks and strategies for maximising every bit of your time, whilst the fifth pillar provides the techniques for building it all into your life so that you never have to attend another Time Management course again. In this book you will learn all about The 5 Pillars of Awesome:- Habit – Learn how to create good habits and get rid of bad habits Alignment – Look inside yourself and start to take control of your life Balance – Not just work-life balance – “Whole Life Balance” Integration – Learn how to really Make Shit Happen Tracking – Find out how to condition all of this into your life for the long term Escape from….. Boudica’s Army by Andrea Pate
This is an historical children’s novel set in Roman Britain during the Boudican rebellion, targeted at 8 to 12 year olds, although it is good for anyone due to the historical accuracy of the book. Ty’s family have just moved from the great city of Rome to the new capital of Roman Britain, Camulodunum. After struggling to make friends with the boys at his new school, a violent encounter with local boy Addie turns to close friendship. However, a visit to the local Trinovantes village threatens to end their time together. In the meantime, the great Iceni queen Boudica is fed up with the Romans in her homeland. She's building an army and getting ready to fight back. As the friendship between the two boys and their families grow, so does the unrest between the locals and their Roman invaders. Can Addie save Ty from the threat of Boudica's army, or will they be overcome by the fiery haired queen and her bloodthirsty horde?
