NASHER COMES TO MARCHINGTON!!!!!!!
SUNDAY 13TH MAY 5.30PM
Former FRANKIE GOES TO HOLLYWOOD guitarist BRIAN NASH comes to our humble pub next month!
He brings with him some great songs we all know, plus some original stuff and Liverpudlian humour in one great package!
Expect this one to be a biggie on the grounds of curiosity! (going to miss it too, I’m on holiday!! Bummer!!)
Brian "Nasher" Nash was the guitarist for the 1980s band, Frankie Goes to Hollywood. The bands worldwide smash hit Relax reached No 1 on the UK Singles Chart in 1984.
His new album 432-1 Open the Vein is released in June via Babylon Pink Recordings.
He has previously released solo albums, Ripe, in 1999 and Le Grande Fromage in 2002. His book Nasher Says Relax takes the lid off the pop industry, past and present and was released originally in 2012. The audio version has just been mad available and makes for a fascinating listen on the back story of an iconic UK band.
Even before joining Frankie Goes to Hollywood, guitarist Brian Nash was already causing a racket in his hometown of Liverpool, England. In 1977, Nash discovered punk rock, and he used his guitar to crank out amateurish covers of songs from the Sex Pistols, the Buzzcocks, and Stiff Little Fingers with his first band Smuzz.
Upon graduation, After experimenting with several other groups, Nash formed Sons and Egypt with Peter Gill (drums) and Holly Johnson (vocals). In 1980, Gill and Johnson departed from Sons and Egypt for a new band, Frankie Goes to Hollywood.
When Gerard O'Toole quit Frankie Goes to Hollywood, Nash became the group's guitarist. Like Duran Duran, Frankie Goes to Hollywood took advantage of MTV's popularity with stylish, sexually provocative videos. The band broke up in 1987.
In 1991, Nash collaborated with singer Grant Boult as Low. Low recorded one LP, Enter the Bigger Reality. Nash and Boult decided to work together again as Dr. Jolly's Salvation Circus. Nash created his own Internet-based label, Babylon Pink.

| THE JAM’D (Saturday June 9th 7.30pm. Marchington Village Hall)
The last Village Hall event before the holiday season and promises to be a good one, what better than some raucous angst from one of pop’s favourite trios and a bit of solo Weller thrown into the mix for good measure!
Here’s what the papers had to say…..
Widely regarded now as the Uk’s most authentic and leading tribute to The Jam, The Jam’d are totally committed to giving an unforgettable, authentic performance with all the energy, passion and style of the Woking 3.
As full time touring professional musicians, and massive Jam fans themselves, the band don’t “try to be” or “pretend to be” The Jam, but rather put on a performance from the heart and soul, drawing on all their memories, experiences and love of what was the country’s biggest band in their day.
Gigging up and down the UK at outdoor festivals, scooter rallies and some of the UK’s top tribute venues & events! The show also includes the only replica of Rick Bucklers ‘Great White’ drum kit & features their own brass section!……You won’t be disappointed!
Every effort is placed into reproducing the sound, arrangements and energy of a Jam gig. Those who saw The Jam live will remember the electricity, aggression, passion, and even fashion on stage, something not always prevalent in today’s world, but to The Jam’d, it is a passion, a mission, and an honour to play for fans of “the best band in the f#@*ing world!” |
