MARCHINGTON MUSIC CLUB (SUNDAYS FROM 5.30PM)
Playing host this week to PAUL WALKER & KAREN PFEIFFER.
With their unique onstage-chemistry and their widely praised harmonies, the Anglo-German duo ‘Paul Walker & Karen Pfeiffer’ entertain and engage their audiences wherever they perform.
Combining their original material with a fine choice of folk favourites Paul and Karen craft a show of “songs with groove and goosebumps guaranteed”, as the Stuttgart press put it recently. Karen’s voice, clear and yet so powerful, leaves audiences mesmerised. She adds with alto recorder, tin whistle and percussive instruments to Paul’s vocal and individual guitar style. In addition to their UK tours, these “two exceptional musicians” (Stuttgart press) have established a significant reputation in Ireland and Germany and therefore sometimes the odd German folk song, or even a German ‘joke’ will find its way into a “fantastically entertaining night.
Fun starts around 5.30pm and if that isn’t enough, the following week a living legend!……..
TV SMITH (Sunday 17th September 5.30pm)
Brought to us courtesy of Uttoxeter Punk, the man that brought us “looking through Gary Gilmores eyes” and other punk classics, performing un-plugged at the D&P!!!!!!!!!!
TV Smith would be no stranger to anyone who loves the punk and alternative scene and with over 40 years in the business Tim has many studio albums and singles to his name with the Adverts, with other bands and now as a solo artist. Albums such as Crossing the Red Sea and singles such as Gary Gilmores Eyes, No Time To Be 21, One Chord Wonders and Bored Teenagers would stir memories of the punk scene in the late 70's but more recent works such as Only One Flavour, Lion and the Lamb, The Day We Caught the Big Fish and the Immortal Rich have attracted notable acclaim.
TV Smith has appeared on TV on several occasions, recently as part of the BBC's Punk Britannia series and in a BBC4 documentary on the Adverts. TV is a very sociable chap, he'll be selling merchandise at both events so come along and listen to a Punk Legend and afterwards you could catch up with him for a chat about the classic punk scene or his acoustic works.
Expect this to be a busy one, come early!
