This coming Sunday 3rd we are happy to welcome some friends from over the pond, the good ol’ US of A!!
VIVIAN LEVA AND RILEY CALCAGNO Sunday 3RD JUNE
Vivian Leva and Riley Calcagno are tapping into the deepest parts of American music, taking old songs that have seldom been heard and presenting them next to their own timeless and visceral originals. When they are not performing as duo, they’re often found sitting knee to knee, playing under the canopy of trees at fiddle festivals across the country, such as the gathering where they met in June of 2016. Across any campground, or concert venue, the echos of their vibrant and magnetic harmonies ring out.
Leva, of Lexington, Virginia grew up playing and performing with her parents, Carol Elizabeth Jones and James Leva, learning traditional songs from their sources and honing her rhythmic guitar style. This past June, Vivian recorded her debut album Time is Everything in close collaboration with Calcagno during an inspired session at Studio 808A in the small town of Floyd, VA. She will be releasing this album of original music on March 2nd, 2018 on Free Dirt Records.
Riley, of Seattle, WA spent his earlier years playing with the widely recognized band The Onlies, described as “masterful” and “deliciously well-crafted” (Kithfolk) and developing his own distinct authenticity on the fiddle and banjo.
Together, Vivian and Riley have toured across the country, in living rooms and concert halls. As individuals, they have shared the stages with and played, both nationally and internationally, in the bands of Elvis Costello, Rhiannon Giddens, The Lost Tribe Of Country Music, and Bruce Molsky to name just a few. To this collaboration they bring both the steady hands of experience and a refined taste for American music, yet still a youthful abandon that can’t be forced. In 2018, they will be on tour internationally to support Vivian’s new release and bring their distinct brand of old-time and country to a festival, hall, bar, or fireplace gathering near you.
Come on down and make them feel welcome, fun begins as always around 5.30pm!!!!!!!!!!!!
BIG STONE GAP Sunday 10TH JUNE
Big Stone Gap was formed in 2007, near Uttoxeter, England. A fusion of styles, ranging from blues, folk and country comes together through guitars, vocals, fiddle and bass. BSG members Karen, Neil, Gilly,Nik and Harry have a wide and varied musical background, tastes and experience which come together to give a distinctive feel to their renditions of both well-known and lesser-known songs.
The band's name is taken from the town of the same name in the Appalachians of Virginia. Gilly's dad was once over there on business and got stuck in bad weather. He was put up for the night by some kind soul in the town (there is a longer story......) We liked the tale and thought the town would provide a good band name and a reflection of some of our 'country' influences and style.

| THE JAM’D (Saturday June 9th 7.30pm. Marchington Village Hall)
The last Village Hall event before the holiday season and promises to be a good one, what better than some raucous angst from one of pop’s favourite trios and a bit of solo Weller thrown into the mix for good measure!
Here’s what the papers had to say…..
Widely regarded now as the Uk’s most authentic and leading tribute to The Jam, The Jam’d are totally committed to giving an unforgettable, authentic performance with all the energy, passion and style of the Woking 3.
As full time touring professional musicians, and massive Jam fans themselves, the band don’t “try to be” or “pretend to be” The Jam, but rather put on a performance from the heart and soul, drawing on all their memories, experiences and love of what was the country’s biggest band in their day.
Gigging up and down the UK at outdoor festivals, scooter rallies and some of the UK’s top tribute venues & events! The show also includes the only replica of Rick Bucklers ‘Great White’ drum kit & features their own brass section!……You won’t be disappointed!
Every effort is placed into reproducing the sound, arrangements and energy of a Jam gig. Those who saw The Jam live will remember the electricity, aggression, passion, and even fashion on stage, something not always prevalent in today’s world, but to The Jam’d, it is a passion, a mission, and an honour to play for fans of “the best band in the f#@*ing world!”
TICKETS AVAILABLE FROM THE D&P AND MARCHINGTON VILLAGE SHOP!!!!!!!!!!!!
