Real Life Example - Business Continuity

Lessons Learned

The disastrous Texas power outages in 2021 wreaked havoc on my banner ads and landing pages.  On most safelist sites, there were literally thousands of bad images and broken web links.  If people cannot see your banners or know how to access your webpages, your Network Marketing business is OUT OF BUSINESS.

I like to create my OWN unique banner, button, and login ad images rather than using the same-old images EVERYBODY ELSE uses and likewise with my custom landing pages.  Most of my images and many of my landing pages were hosted on GVO, located in Texas.  All 4 of my blogs, my landing pages, and my image assets were simply unavailable.

Fortunately, I have hosting by OTHER geographically diversified providers who were not affected, and I had a relatively recent backup of all my GVO sites that I downloaded to my offline storage, so inside of 15 minutes, all my images and landing pages were uploaded to the new host and available.  The problem was that all the safelists showing my ads had to be updated with the new domain name.

With all the safelist memberships I have, and 10 years of postings with hundreds of thousands of ads, I could be visiting sites and updating links for the next several years and not get caught up.  I had considered this in my Business Continuity plan several years ago (yes, I have one), and had put some tools and protocols in place to handle such situations.

By having my URL Trackers CENTRALLY MANAGED and Banner Trackers CENTRALLY MANAGED in HitsConnect, all I had to do for banners was update the imageurl and targeturlredirecting them to the new domain name.  Landing pages were a bit more complex, but the same process was used to redirect them.

While everybody else was out of business, inside of 1 hour I had 90% of my business operational, my ads showing, getting signups, and yes, even earning commissions (true story).

I consider HitsConnect to be an ESSENTIAL TOOL that I USE EVERY DAY.  It is ABSOLUTELY worthwhile to PAY the $7 per month or $47 per year (sale price now) for the PRO upgrade.

By the way, I use HitsConnect to track ALL banners for ALL affiliate programs, reduce promotion time with banner rotators, and track performance of my most important landing pages when promoting WorldProfit and Secrets of the Big Dogs.

Lessons You Can Learn From This Catastrophe

  • Create a BUSINESS CONTINUITY PLAN and review it periodically

  • Store your graphics objects and lead capture pages in the CLOUD or on web hosting, where they are addressable via the web.  (ViralHostsHostgator)

  • Take frequent backups of your online assets and store those backups OFFLINE.  (With a hosting account, use CPANEL Backup)

  • Use tools like URL TRACKERS so that there is ONE PLACE to go to redirect your landing pages, sales pages, etc.  (I use several, including HitsConnectWorldProfitViralURLLGPMVC Rotator, MyLinkSentry)

  • Use tools like BANNER MANAGEMENT and TRACKERS so that there is ONE PLACE to go to redirect your banners, and graphic assets. (I use several, including HitsConnectTrafficZipperIntellibanners)

  • Use a cloud-based, searchable Password Management system like Roboform.  Passwords stored in your browser will not work if your URL changes

  • Export your BROWSER BOOKMARKS to local offline storage

  • Use Google HTML EDITOR for custom ad copy and store those documents on Google Drive (both free with your Gmail account)
