My suggestion was to do a search for an affiliate marketing checklist and start from step 1 and do stuff the list suggests.
Next bit of good advice was to start with stuff that is free.
Google will be your friend as you work through what you need and get it free. There will be some traps along the way. Example: Mailchimp offers a great free autoresponder to manage your automated emails BUT they hate affiliate links.
This is where the free trial works really well. There is an art to this. Plan what you want to achieve in the trial. Smash it. Not enough paying results = move to the next.
