In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the lockdown in March-April 2020 was an extraordinary moment in New Zealand’s history. Our daily lives were severely impacted during the six weeks of lockdown, and we all coped in different ways. Research New Zealand conducted a survey during this time to measure how our responses varied, and why, and from this developed a ‘Coping Index’. While the majority of New Zealanders managed their way through it, some of us struggled to cope (the ‘Worriers’), and some of us made light work of it (the ‘Copers’). Please find attached our report Living in Lockdown, with the results of this research, conducted between 26 and 29 March 2020, on a representative sample of 1,000 New Zealanders, 18 years of age and older.
