Thank you Friend for taking part in our recent survey of people who smoke or have recently quit. This is the first of a series of updates with news about the EASE survey.

Latest survey wave successfully completed!

We were delighted with the response – 1277 people completed the Wave 3 survey including 518 Māori and 208 Pacific participants. Finding out what works for Māori and Pacific peoples is an important aim of the study, so we really appreciate your contribution.

Congratulations to winners in iPad prize draw

Returning survey participants (that means people who previously participated in Wave 2 in 2019) were eligible for a prize draw – we had two Apple iPads up for grabs. The lucky winners were from Wairoa and Whangarei, and both were excited to have won and to be involved in the research.

Mini-survey coming soon

In the EASE study, we want to follow how things change for people over time. We have a mini-survey (Wave 3.5) coming soon, which will only take 10-15 minutes. As usual, everyone who takes part will receive a grocery voucher and once again there will be two chances to win an Apple iPad. Look out for your invitation to participate in June or July.

Meet the team

In each newsletter we will profile a member of the research team, starting with Associate Professor El Shadan (Dan) Tautolo who is the Pacific lead researcher working on the EASE study.

Dan is of Cook Island Māori and Samoan descent, and lives in Auckland with his family. He specialises in research investigating the health and wellbeing of Pacific families and communities in New Zealand and is passionate about research which has an impact in the Pacific community. He is an Associate Professor of Public Heath at AUT, Director of AUT’s Pacific Health Research Centre, and Director of the Pacific Island Families Study. His outstanding achievement and leadership in Pacific public health was recognised last year when he was the recipient of the inaugural Public Health Association of New Zealand 2020 Pasifika Award.
