Research Alliance Joins EdResearch for Recovery Project
Ed Research and recovery brief 1st page
The Research Alliance is collaborating with the Annenberg Institute for School Reform and Results for America on the EdResearch for Recovery Project. This project is providing rapid-turnaround evidence briefs from researchers around the nation to help answer pressing education-related questions from policymakers, educators, parents and advocates as they work to respond to and recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Research Alliance’s Zitsi Mirakhur and Kathyrn Hill are serving as lead researchers as part of the Supporting All Students team, and have contributed to a research brief on practices to support students experiencing homelessness. Co-authored with Southern Methodist University scholars Alexandra Pavlakis, J. Kessa Roberts, and Meredith Richards, the brief emphasizes that homelessness is not a uniform experience for students. It highlights the value of collaboration and data sharing with local providers, communicating regularly with students’ families and other trusted adults, and taking account of local conditions, available funding, and the realities of students’ home environments when developing plans for school reopening. The brief also describes evidence about deficit-oriented and stigmatizing practices that may have adverse consequences for students and families.

Supporting Racial Justice at the Research Alliance

In response to widely publicized acts of police brutality and resulting protests, the Research Alliance issued a public statement condemning the pervasive racism that impacts Black communities in the United States and emphasizing our commitment to promoting racial justice in NYC schools. The statement outlines several steps we are taking to make a racial justice lens more explicit in our research. We look forward to engaging with researchers, policymakers, educators, and other stakeholders about how to enhance support for Black students’ lives and futures in NYC schools and communities.
