New Spotlight Post Identifies Where Puerto Rican Students and Families Live in New York CityHurricanes Irma and Maria devastated Puerto Rican homes, infrastructure, and lives. New York City district officials have already indicated that they are preparing for a large influx of students fleeing the aftermath of the hurricanes. The most recent post in our Spotlight on NYC Schools series highlights the percentage of New Yorkers with Puerto Rican heritage in each census tract. In several of the maps, we show schools that are located in these areas of the City and indicate whether or not each school is currently above its intended capacity. The post provides insight about what neighborhoods and schools in New York City may need the most support for Puerto Rican students and their families.
