Special Education in NYC: A Landscape Analysis. With support from the New York Community Trust, the Research Alliance is conducting a landscape analysis of the state of special education in New York City. The project will provide a system-wide picture of how and where students with disabilities are served, and their outcomes. Our work will include interviews with special education experts at the NYC DOE and other local organizations as well as analysis of administrative data aimed at describing the current landscape of special education in NYC and providing recommendations for future studies and work that can inform and advance instructional improvements for students with disabilities. This project will fill important knowledge gaps about how students with disabilities are being served; help identify areas where NYC has made progress, including successful models that may be worth replicating; and lay the foundation for future research.
Technical Assistance for the Teagle Foundation's College-Community Connections Program. The Research Alliance is expanding our work with the Teagle Foundation's College-Community Connections (CCC) Program, which funds partnerships between NYC-based nonprofit organizations and nearby universities. Drawing on lessons from the first phase of our work together (documented in Preparing for Evaluation), we will (1) develop and pilot a set of data collection instruments for CCC's internal evaluation, and (2) study how student writing develops over time in two CCC programs. |
