New Spotlight: Have Links Between Neighborhood Poverty and Education Outcomes Changed Over Time?

In the final post in our series on student outcome trends, we explore the connection between neighborhood poverty and two key outcomes: chronic absenteeism and high school graduation rates. The post examines the relationship between these outcomes and the area of the City in which students live—and how, if at all, this relationship has changed over time.
Chronic Absentee Rates, 2007 and 2018, by Residential Census Tract
The post features maps that show high-poverty census tracts, as well as chronic absentee rates and high school graduation rates by census tract, in 2007 and again in 2018. We find trends consistent with previous posts, including overall improvements and persistent disparities associated with students’ race/ethnicity, socioeconomic status, and neighborhood.
