New: Exploring the Evidence on Virtual and Blended Learning
Beginning on March 16, New York City’s 1.1. million children transitioned to remote learning. This has prompted important questions about effective strategies for remote instruction. What does the research say about online learning for different types of students? About blended strategies that combine virtual learning with in-class instruction? About particular tools and technology-based education programs?

To begin to address these questions, the Research Alliance has compiled a brief overview of research and practical guidance on strategies to implement remote or blended instruction. This evolving document includes links to a variety of resources and reports on specific strategies and programs. While our summary is by no means a complete review of the research literature on remote and blended learning, we hope it can inform planning and the continued assessment of what has worked, what has not worked, for whom, and under what conditions. In the event that NYC schools need to phase in the reopening of physical classrooms in the 2020-2021 school year, we hope this information provides useful guidance about how to organize blended instruction.

Understanding and Supporting Student Needs During COVID-19
The Research Alliance is working with #DegreesNYC and the Student Success Network to better understand the impact of COVID-19 on various aspects of NYC students’ lives. For more information, please join our webinar on June 5 at 9:30 a.m., where we will discuss the ongoing development of a COVID-19 Resource Guide and a common youth survey tool designed to learn more about students’ needs and the effects of COVID-19 on young people and their families.
