The School-Level Master File
Now with an additional year of data and 
a new companion data set.
A new version of the School Level Master File (SCHMA) is now available. The Research Alliance created this file by restructuring information released by the NYC and U.S. Departments of Education into a consistent, user-friendly dataset suitable for analysis. The SCHMA now includes data from the 2012-2013 school year.

As always, the SCHMA only includes publicly available data and is aggregated to the school level. There is no way to retrieve information about any individual from this data set. 

What’s New in the SCHMA?

In addition to adding the latest year of data, we have developed a new companion data set to the SCHMA that includes student achievement data broken down by race and by gender, for each school in each year. In response to a number of requests, we have also added three new variables from the federal Common Core of Data, all related to free and reduced price lunch.  

Who is Using the SCHMA?

We asked people who have downloaded the SCHMA how they are using it. Here is some of what we found:
“As a teaching and research resource for doctoral students in our 
Ph.D. Program in Urban Education.”

“To advocate for the best policies for our neighborhood public schools, including integration.” 

“We're working on some district level reforms ... I'd like to check our hypotheses against your data set.”
