The Research Alliance for New York City Schools
Download a Comprehensive School-Level Data Set About NYC Public Schools
Now Updated Through the 2015-2016 School Year
As part of our ongoing efforts to support research about NYC schools, the latest version of the School-Level Master File (SCHMA) is now available for download from the Research Alliance's website.

The Research Alliance created the SCHMA by restructuring publicly available information from the NYC and U.S. Departments of Education into a consistent, user-friendly dataset suitable for analysis.

The newest version of the SCHMA provides longitudinal data from 1996-2016 for all NYC public schools. It includes school-level:
  • Enrollment and demographic information
  • Attendance rates
  • Number of classes and class sizes
  • Test scores for grades 3-8
  • High school graduation rates
  • School expenditures data
  • Identifiers that link school records over time and link NYC data to other public data sources
The file includes only publicly available data and is aggregated to the school level. There is no way to retrieve information about any individual from this file.

Request access to the updated SCHMA through the Research Alliance's website.
