a message from range officer frank findley
existing Members are invited to attend new member Safety orientations
A question came up in the last monthly meeting if those who became members before we instituted the Safety Orientation could attend a session. The answer is: of course, we encourage all members to attend including spouses! Please just send Frank Findley ( flfindley@sbcglobal.net ) an email if you are interested in attending. We will alert you to when these are occurring and ensure there is space for you. The next one will be September 7 at 4PM in the members room.
Range Rules Guided by AIMS AND Purpose of the Club – We Are So Lucky!
I have a personal goal to shoot in each of our fifty states. As part of that I visited an indoor range when in Honolulu, Hawaii. It was quite an eye opener. Each booth had aluminum vertical bars providing arms only a couple degrees of movement. Each firearm was also chained to the booth to keep you from moving it behind the bars. One also had to purchase the ammo used from the range and magazines were limited to ten rounds. There was no way to practice even basic manipulations like magazine changes. Later another firearm owner made me aware of the only outdoor public range. It didn’t have bars and chains. However, outside of organized leagues, shooters were limited to loading no more than five rounds and no “rapid” shooting was allowed (rule of thumb was no more than once every 5 seconds). Better, but still very limiting to learn how to effectively use a firearm.
What does this have to do with Red Brush? Well, it just brought to mind how lucky we are to have a facility that strives to provide the maximum amount of freedom that is possible while maintaining a safe place to shoot. This is in alignment with our club’s aims and purpose:
AIMS AND PURPOSE OF THE CLUB
A. To provide Red Brush Members a safe, clean and enjoyable place to spend recreational time, while pursuing various shooting sports.
B. To promote a true spirit of sportsmanship among its members.
C. To cultivate and promote a friendly relationship among its members and the general public.
D. To encourage and promote organized shooting sports, firearms training and the safe and efficient handling of firearms, among its members and the citizens of our community.
E. To oppose diligently, any law which would restrict the legal ownership of a firearm or one's right to self-defense.
To do this means investing substantial time and money in both active and passive safety systems; increased berm heights, mandatory orientation, league safety officers, signage, lights, etc. Thank you to all the members for making such a range possible!
