Common Misconceptions About Inner Peace
If you have been striving for inner peace before then it is likely that you will have been confronted with a number of misconceptions about it. These may have put you off trying to achieve inner peace. Let’s have a look at the most common misconceptions that surround inner peace.
Chasing Money is better than Inner Peace
Some people believe that trying to achieve inner peace is a waste of time and that you are better off chasing money instead. They think that having a lot of money solves a lot of problems and buying the things that you have always wanted to result in your happiness.
Having money and buying things may result in temporary happiness but it will not have the lasting happiness effects that inner peace can bring. Inner peace will provide you with peace of mind, and no amount of money can buy this. The richest people in the world are rarely known for their happiness or solid relationships.
Hiding from Negativity is the Same as Achieving Inner Peace
What this means is that you will consciously try to hide from negative emotions such as anxiety, anger and frustration in an effort to be calm. But running away from these negative emotions will never create a calm mind for you in the long term.
To hide from these negative emotions, you will usually have to act in a false way. You may try to smile when you are angry for example. Some people take out their credit cards and go on a spending spree to hide from these emotions.
All you are doing here is providing a temporary escape. The negative emotions are not going to go away for good. You need to accept these negative emotions and deal with them. Achieving inner peace is the most effective way to do this.
Just don’t make any Mistakes
Another common misconception is that if you avoid making any mistakes you will achieve the same experience as you will with inner peace. This is totally unrealistic as we all make mistakes. If you are trying to avoid mistakes then it is very likely that you will beat yourself up severely when they do happen.
When you achieve inner peace, you will accept that you are going to make mistakes. You will see your mistakes as a way for you to learn and to grow as an individual. There will be no more anxiety and stress caused by dwelling on your mistakes.
Just Set Goals and Achieve them
Setting goals and achieving them is not the same as inner peace. We would always recommend that you set challenging goals but do not believe that they are everything. Yes, you will experience a temporary state of happiness from achieving your goals but this is unlikely to be long lasting.
If you focus solely on your goals then you will miss out on a lot of other things that life has to offer. There are many other things that can make you happy and content and you do not want to deprive yourself of these. It is all about balance, and inner peace will guide you to achieve the right balance.
Having the Approval of Others will make you Happy
This is definitely not true. If you are someone who looks for the approval of others to be happy then you will never be truly contented. When you achieve inner peace, you will accept who you are and will no longer have to rely on others for your happiness.
