Assalaamualikum Friend,

This is the third of a four-part email series that we are sharing with you to help you or your child learn the Quran.

Tip #1 was to find an excellent teacher. Tip #2 was effective revision.

Now let's move on to the third tip...

Tip #3: Arabic Immersion

As the language of the Quran, Arabic plays a big role in how we understand the Quran. It’s nearly impossible to say that you understand a book when you do not understand the language in which it was written. This is why, in the journey to understand the Quran, you (or your child) will also need the knowledge of the Arabic language.

For non-Arabs, many teachers of the Quran will also teach Arabic. And like the Quran, one needs constant revision and practice to understand Arabic.

Apply to get on a call with a QA Coach who can talk to you about your Tajweed and/or memorization goals, and how leaning Arabic can occur along the way.

Now, one of the best methods that have been proven to work is to become immersed in the language, even if it is artificially. This means that you don’t have to migrate to an Arab country, but you can create an atmosphere of Arabic in the home (so you and your entire family can benefit) through the following methods:

1. Label everyday items in Arabic (e.g fridge, spoons, plates, etc.)
2. Regularly use Arabic phrases for everyday sentences (e.g “how was your day?”)
3. Use learning resources (books, downloaded printables, etc.) to increase your Arabic vocabulary and reinforce the vocabulary with real-life examples.

All of these methods will help you (or your child) understand Arabic better and this will, in turn, have a positive effect on your recognition of words in the Quran, and ultimately, your understanding of the Quran, insha'Allah.
