Assalaamualikum Friend,
"Allahu Akbar" is a phrase we say and hear numerous times a day.
We say it throughout our Salah, we hear it in the Adhaan and Iqaamah, etc.
So if I was to ask you what it means, what would your answer be?
a) Allah is great b) Allah is greater c) Allah is greatest
Which of the above is the correct answer?
If you chose B, you are right!
But many people think it's A or C.
There is so much wisdom behind the phrase "Allahu Akbar" and its meaning "Allah is greater".
Here are only two examples:
Example 1: When you're at home spending time with family, or eating, or watching something, or playing and having fun...you hear the Adhan: "Allahu Akbar". It's time for prayer. At that moment you're being reminded that Allah is greater and more important than whatever you're doing at that moment.
Allah is greater than your video games. Allah is greater than the TV show, movie, sports, or news that you're watching. Allah is greater than your desire for food and drink. Allah is even greater than the people you're having fun with.
Just hearing "Allahu Akbar" should remind you of the importance of Allah and that He is supposed to be the priority in your life. Everything else is important too, but Allah is the MOST important. So you pause whatever you're doing and you pray to Allah. And then you return to what you were doing.
Example 2: When you're about to begin Salah, so many things are on your mind... that work project, my business, what's for lunch, what did I do yesterday, what am I doing tomorrow, when is my Amazon package arriving, why is it so hot in here, I hope I don't miss too much of the sports match, I need to finish praying before the commercials end, etc. Our minds are full of thoughts about so many different things.
But when you say "Allahu Akbar" as you begin your Salah, you are reminded that all of the above is secondary to what should be most important to you, and that is Allah and your relationship with Him.
And guess what; perhaps you do remember that, and the first "Allahu Akbar" gets you in the zone for Salah. But a few seconds later, a random thought pops up and your mind starts wandering again. But then all of a sudden, "Allahu Akbar" again! It's like you're telling yourself, I know it's difficult but don't forget that Allah is more important. And a few seconds later, "Allahu Akbar" again. And again. And again. Throughout the prayer until you're done.
So every "Allahu Akbar" you say in prayer is supposed to wake you up and get you refocused. To recalibrate you. To reignite your khushoo' in Salah.
Isn't that beautiful?
See how understanding one small phrase can make such a huge impact on your Salah and your life?
He will tell you the 3 Secrets to Learning Quranic Arabic.
This will not be your typical Arabic class where you learn abstract, theoretical concepts.
Rather, he will cover real, practical, and relatable concepts that you can implement in your life immediately.
Many of these will relate to the Quran directly (which is the primary purpose of this class) and others will be broader and will benefit you even outside of reading or listening to the Quran, similar to the "Allahu Akbar" example we covered above.
