Assalamualaykum Friend,
We hope you are doing well in both eeman and health.
The Quran was revealed to Prophet Muhammad (saw) over a period of 23 years. The language of revelation was Arabic.
As Islam spread outside the regions where Arabic was not the native language, the need for translations of the Quran arose.
It is believed that the first translation was during the early 7th century when Salman al-Farisi, a companion of the Prophet (saw) and the first Persian to embrace Islam, translated Surah al-Fatihah into the Persian language.
Fast forward to modern times, translations in 102 languages were known by 1936.
Today, millions of Muslims whose mother tongue is not Arabic can read the Quran in their language.
This then begs the question, is it important for a Muslim to learn Arabic and understand the Quran in its original language?
