Asalaamu alaikum Friend,
I have a quick question for you: if you were going on a journey to a new destination, somewhere you've never been before (and this is before the Google Maps and smart phones days)... you would need a map right?
What if I handed you a map that was in a language that you didn't understand?
Would you be able to use and follow that map effectively to reach your destination? It's highly unlikely and near impossible, right?
What would your options be at that point if that was the only map in the world and it was in a language you didnt understand, and this journey was mandatory?
You could try to follow the map without knowing the language at all but then you'd be at risk of getting lost easily and not making it to the correct destination.
You could travel without the map, maybe ask people as you go along, but that's probably even worse than the first option.
Or you could do what makes the most sense and try your best to learn the language the map is in so you can make at least some sense of it and the guidance it has for you.
This example is an analogy of our lives. Allah has sent us on this Earth which is our starting point. He wants us to make our way to Jannah, the ultimate destination for us all inshaAllah. And He's given us guidance i.e. a map known as the Quran which was revealed in the Arabic language.
Allah reminds us again and again that this Quran is A MAP that will guide us to success in this life and the next.
Yet many of us have not tapped in to this guidance because of the barrier of the Arabic language.
Although Allah says that He has made the Quran easy to learn and remember, He says that He has revealed the Quran in Arabic to help us understand His Words, and He says that He has made it CLEAR and it has the answers we need to attain salvation...
Still it's a struggle, right?
I completely understand because I have faced and still face this struggle of trying to understand the Quran in its revealed language.
We're all on this journey together.
You may have thoughts such as:
- Arabic doesn't seem that easy to me. I've tried learning Quranic Arabic before but I failed.
- I'm embarrassed that I'm in my 30s, 40s and 50s and I dont understand my Holy Book.
- Learning Arabic is boring.
- It takes forever.
- I wish I understood what's being recited in Salah.
- And so on and so forth.
These are real frustrations dealt by so many. And we at Quran Academy couldn't stand back and do nothing.
So we've been working for the last few months on something very exciting.
Something that will help you understand this map, the Quran, so you can use it to make it to Jannah, InshaAllah.
