Subject: Wrapping up October’s Ride for Kids Cancer

A week has passed since I finished my ride from Melbourne to Shoalhaven Heads. I cycled 1,288 kms in the month and climbed one and a half Everests. The challenging part is doing that towing 20 kgs of gear and a lot of rainy days. Let the picture tell the story

I have to say this felt like the hardest tour I have done - hills and rain. Maybe I am getting to old for this. I did promise many times this was the last one done like this solo - it was a grind a lot of the time.

Why do it?

Here are just some of the key stats so far this month:

* 8,168 riders are taking part across Australia.

* 49,580 individual donations have been made to support our GCC community.

* $4,082,453 has been raised (so far) to support childhood cancer research, which is AMAZING!

* Together, our community has logged 64,083 rides and ridden a total of 1,419,039 kilometres, which is the equivalent of pedalling non-stop for 2,682 days.

...and we're not done yet. Mark, YOU are part of our movement to end childhood cancer.

Also in this time, over the 28 days you've been riding in the challenge:

* 46 Australian families have heard the painful words "your child has cancer."

* We've lost 12 children to this terrible disease.

Reason enough - I was never alone.

Last email, I shared some data about the donation results. That email and the related social media posts yielded two more donations - one from email and one from social media, one from a former client and one from a friend - both are friends. This will be the last email for 2022. I thank you all for your support and for the donations. I achieved all the goals I set - rode the kms, filled in the gap in the map, saw my daughter for first time in over 3 years, earned a Super Hero jersey - maybe one more email to show that in action this week.

The best news of the week is my first grandchild was born. Welcome to Scarlett Lily born November 2 here in Sydney. May she never have to face Kids Cancer.

Take good care and thanks again
