Subject: Movies on the Meadows Press Release

38th Cambridge Film Festival | 25th October - 1st November 2018

CAMBRIDGE FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES DETAILS OF THIS YEAR'S MOVIES ON THE MEADOWS.

The Cambridge Film Festival will return for its 38th edition this October.

If that’s too long to wait for your film festival fix then head down to Grantchester Meadows this August Bank Holiday weekend for Cambridge’s most prestigious outdoor summer film event, Movies on the Meadows.

Returning to Grantchester for the 10th successive year, and with a reputation for delivering a bigger and better event every summer, 2018’s Movies on the Meadows will run from 24th - 27th August and promises to be the most ambitious yet. Presenting more than 12 films on huge inflatable screens in one of Cambridge’s most picturesque settings, the popular event is also a vital fundraiser for the main annual Film Festival.

Leading the impressive lineup of titles confirmed so far is the all singing all dancing, smash hit musical, THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, starring Hugh Jackman, which will be ably supported by the latest Marvel epic AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg's science fiction action adventure READY PLAYER ONE.

Movies on the Meadows is certainly an event for the whole family, with everyones favourite marmalade eating CGI bear returning to the big screen in Grantchester for PADDINGTON 2, that rarest of things a sequel which may just be better than the original. Another Movies on the Meadows favourite who is returning for more is Wes Anderson, who’s wonderfully quirky stop frame animation ISLE OF DOGS will screen on Sunday alongside the beautiful Japanese animation MARY AND THE WITCH’S FLOWER. The Family film lineup is completed by Pixar’s latest feature COCO which follows a young Mexican boy, Miguel who finds himself trapped in the stunning and colorful Land of the Dead.

With at least two more films still to be announced the currently confirmed lineup is completed by three hollywood heavyweights; Christopher Nolan’s incredible WWII epic DUNKIRK is sure to be enhanced by the outdoor setting, Steven Spielberg’s latest feature READY PLAYER ONE is complemented by his very first with a rare opportunity to see his 1971 car based thriller DUEL on the big screen, and finally (literal heavyweight) Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson stars in JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE the hilarious sequel to Robin Williams’ 90’s classic.

The Cambridge Film Festival Marketing Manager, Owen Baker said:

“Movies on the Meadows was a huge success last year with two of the nights selling out and over 3,200 people attending across the four days! So obviously we’re really excited to be bringing such huge films to Grantchester again this year, and hoping for the same glorious weather!” He continued, “As an independent charity it’s really important to us to be able to present events like this and the October Film Festival to bring inspiring cinema experiences to the broadest possible audiences.”
