Subject: Movies on the Meadows FINAL Press Release

(For Immediate Release)

38th Cambridge Film Festival | 25th October - 1st November 2018

CAMBRIDGE FILM FESTIVAL CONFIRMS ALL 12 FILMS FOR MOVIES ON THE MEADOWS 2018!

While you may have to wait until October for the 38th Cambridge Film Festival to arrive in the city, you can get your summer film festival fix later this month with the return of Movies on the Meadows, an event which is now a well established fixture in the Cambridge calendar.

Returning to Grantchester for its 10th edition, and with a reputation for delivering a bigger and better event every year, 2018’s Movies on the Meadows will run from 24th - 27th August and present 12 films on huge inflatable screens alongside wonderful food from local vendors, all in one of the most beautiful settings Cambridge has to offer. As well as being one the largest outdoor film events in the UK, Movies on the Meadows is also a vital fundraiser for the main annual Film Festival.

Leading the impressive lineup of titles for FRIDAY is the smash hit musical, THE GREATEST SHOWMAN, starring Hugh Jackman and an incredible ensemble cast. This is more than ably supported by Pixar’s guaranteed family favourite COCO as well as the first ever feature film from legendary filmmaker Steven Spielberg's, DUEL.

SATURDAY
sees monster hit of 2018 AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR, the latest and arguably the greatest Marvel adventure yet, which will be supported by the an adventure of a different kind in JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE. Starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and friends Welcome to the Jungle is the hilarious reboot of the 1994 Robin Williams’ family classic. Saturday's lineup is completed by the life affirming and often laugh-out-loud funny, LOCAL HERO from acclaimed director Bill Forsyth.

Headlining on SUNDAY is the undisputed king of marmalade eating CGI bears Paddington who returns to the big screen for that rarest of things, a sequel which may just be better than the original. PADDINGTON 2 has been a huge hit with both critics and audiences alike and really is shaping up to be a highlight of Movies on the Meadows 2018. Sunday also offers the opportunity to see the truly epic DUNKIRK, outdoors on the big screen in a setting which can only add to the already incredible experience. The second of 3 Spielberg films now confirmed for Sunday night is Indiana Jones’ first outing, RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK.

MONDAY closes the Spielberg circle with his adventure through 80’s nostalgia, READY PLAYER ONE, as well as bringing Movies on the Meadows favourite Wes Anderson back to Grantchester with ISLE OF DOGS, and finally showcasing stunning Japanese animation MARY AND THE WITCH’S FLOWER. Hopefully Movies on the Meadows can stretch a glorious August bank holiday weekend just a little bit longer.

Cambridge Film Festival Marketing Manager, Owen Baker said:

“Movies on the Meadows was a huge success last year with two of the nights selling out and over 3,200 people attending across the four days. So obviously we’re really excited to be bringing more great films and amazing local food to Grantchester again this year, and hoping for the same glorious weather!”  He continued,  “We know that the delicious food at Movies on the Meadows is as important as the films, so we're thrilled to be welcoming some of the very best local food vendors this year. We have Chip Chip Hooray, Steak & Honour, Provenance Kitchen, Pull me cheri, Caffe mobile, Sub 120, Moonshine Brewery and Trumpington Ice Cream. So hopefully something for everybody!”
