I did a little digging. I have been burned a few times by MLM's like that.
It reminds me why I am staying away from MLM - I remain in one for Bitcoin mining. It is still going. The other one died in the way all MLM's do. Worse actually as 3 of the people were arrested and face charges in US court.
All the stuff I promote is solid stuff - know suppliers and not dependent on new recruiting to keep going.
