Subject: Hidden Gems: Puglia 🏝

Ready to book an Italian break? Check out Puglia, our second hidden gem in this mini-series.

Hi Friend,

If the entirety of Italy is a boot then Puglia is located at the heel. Often overlooked in favour of better-known regions, Puglia is a beautiful part of the country with coast, countryside, culture and plenty of charm.

Often also referred to as Apulia, Puglia is famous for its olive oil production; a staple ingredient in many Italian dishes. It’s also the home of the famous Trulli villages like Alberobello, known for its distinctive whitewashed houses with their conical, stone roofs.

If you’re looking for a relaxing holiday in Italy then Puglia is the ideal region. With plenty of picturesque towns and villages to stay in, miles of gently rolling hills and farmland, and gorgeous beaches and cliffs along the coast, you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to stunning landscapes and quiet places to spend your break.

Puglia is a great place to visit for an alternative beach holiday, but is also a great region for travellers wanting to go hiking or cycling through the Italian countryside. There’s also plenty on offer in terms of sightseeing, from historic Bari to the Castellana Caves and stunning whitewashed Ostuni.

If tourist hotspots like Tuscany and the Amalfi Coast don’t tickle your fancy, Puglia certainly will. The region has a charm all of its own, offering outstanding food, architecture, scenery and history for those who choose to pay a visit.

We've got some stunning villas in Puglia, which you can book below. If you have any questions, simply reply to this email and we'll be more than happy to help!

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

  • Puglia produces 20% of the wine made in Italy. Be sure to visit the Rivera Winery, they were the pioneers in raising the quality of wine in the region.

  • The region is rich in history boasting lots of castles, 12th-century mosaics, Romanesque churches and beautiful Baroque cathedrals to explore.

  • Puglia is a popular destination for Italians for its warm climate and stunning beaches. If you're looking for a region that doesn't attract as many tourists and crowds, then Puglia should be on your list.

ARRIVING & TRANSPORT

For visitors arriving by plane, there are two main airports in Puglia: the Karol Wojtyla Airport in Bari and the Airport of Salento in Brindisi. From here, you can take a taxi, train or hire a car from one of the rental facilities at each airport.

Taxi transfers will depend on the area of Puglia you're visiting. You can use this website to calculate the costs. Hiring a car or train travel could be the cheapest option if your villa is in a more remote location of Puglia.
