PGCSIF Celebrates Ten Years!
Today, the Prince Georgeās County Social Innovation Fund celebrates ten (10) years of building social capital and finding new ways of addressing old problems in Prince Georgeās County, MD. Founded in part to shift the narrative of Prince Georgeās County, which at the time, was suffering from bad PR and a few bad actors whoād captured the attention of local media, perpetually. We wanted to celebrate young adults who operated under the radar, whose stories were often untold and connect them more deliberately to the civic infrastructure in the County. We wanted to tell a different story about Prince Georgeās County. The real story.
Forty Under Forty Prince Georgeās is the flagship initiative for the Prince Georgeās County Social Innovation Fund (PGCSIF). Designed to showcase the brilliance, talent, and leadership of the best and brightest of Prince Georgeās County; now in 2021 PGCSIF will celebrate ten years by reflecting on the successes and milestones of our honorees.
The Forty Under Forty Initiative builds social capital amongst like-minded people and creates a network of achievers and doers. āI wanted to inspire a spirit of renaissance, one that celebrated all that was good, connected people to one another for more purpose-driven work, and to build culture in this majority African American community. I also wanted to dispel myths and lean in on the truth about who we are as people in this County; and to develop some shared aspirationsā, said Founder Tonia Wellons. As we gear up for our 10-year anniversary celebrations, we want to tell the story of our impact and powerful network.
This year, in lieu of our traditional Forty Under 40 Awards nomination and selection process, we intend to share deliberate stories of past honorees and āwhere are they nowā; and to acknowledge and celebrate the people and institutions that have supported us along the way. This is also a period of reflection and recalibration for the Prince Georgeās County Social Innovation Fund as we transition to new leadership and will seek new inspiration and feedback on what the County needs from us now.
Stay tuned for the save the date and ways you can sponsor our upcoming 10-year anniversary celebration! |
