Subject: The Month of Blackness Presents...

A Message From Our Chair
As we look to our history in this country and in this county to figures like Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, W.E.B. Dubois, Fannie Lou Hamer, Barack Obama, even our own Wayne Curry, the tempting question to ask ourselves is what would we have done if we were them back then? The more important and more powerful question is: what will each of us do now. While our community has made undeniable progress, the vicissitudes of racism and discrimination from redlining to school underfunding to violence in our communities remain too prevalent for us to ignore. As the Social Innovation Fund, we choose to do the only thing that has ever triumphed over those ills and that is to draw a body of committed people together to combat them. That is why in this month, this whole year and our life as a Fund we are going to bring as many of our fellow Prince Georgians together to tackle so much of the unfinished work of the heroes that we celebrate.
