FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 18, 2019
The Prince George’s County Social Innovation Fund is pleased to announce its Forty UNDER 40 Prince George’s County 2019 Honorees. This year marks the 8th year of this hometown award for County residents under the age of 40 in the areas of arts and humanities, business, education, health and fitness, public service, and science and engineering. Forty Under 40 seeks to highlight the County’s top talent and then connect them more deliberately to them to each other; and to civic and economic infrastructure of Prince George’s County through advocacy and service opportunities on public and non-profit boards and commissions.
“This year’s cohort is exceptional”, notes Dr. Jacqueline Marshall, Advisory Board Co-chair of Forty Under 40. The honorees range in ages 22 - 39 and live in all 9 districts of the County. “They are authors, doctors, lawyers, artists, activists, and so much more; and they are completely committed to their individual crafts and to making Prince George’s County an even stronger and more vibrant community”, said Tonia Wellons, PGCSIF Founder. The complete list of 2019 Honorees is found below.
Nominations were submitted through late 2018 and assessed based on accomplishments, service, character, and commitment to the County. After eight years of successfully recognizing next generation leaders in Prince George’s County (320 Honorees to date), nearly 30% of honorees have joined non-profit boards and advisory committees throughout the County. The recognition makes it easy for organizations to identify top talent! Honorees have also engaged in policy discussions with the Prince George’s County Executive, County Council, and the leadership at the Prince George’s County Chamber of Commerce on issues ranging from public education to economic development and residency preferences for employment and contracting.
Forty UNDER 40 is an asset to Prince George’s County in its unique ability to connect a vibrant community of young leaders across a variety of sectors and motivate them toward collective action. The initiative creates a center of gravity for increased relevance, connectivity, and innovation in Prince George’s County. The Forty Under 40 Awards Ceremony will be held on May 14, 2019 at Newton White Mansion in Upper Marlboro, Maryland at 6:00pm.
