Wasting no time, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 225-206 to pass the PRO Act (or the Protecting the Right to Organize Act). It's the most expansive labor relations legislation since the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA) was adopted in 1935. Among its numerous provisions the PRO Act: - Eliminates right-to-work laws in 28 states, forcing workers in those states to pay forced dues to unions.
- Essentially destroys the business model - and likely millions of jobs - for freelancers, people who work for franchises, app-based drivers, and other independent contractors.
- Destroys employer free speech and attorney-client privileged communications when they relate to union activity.
- Encourages "card check" recognition and other ways to disenfranchise American workers.
Passage of the PRO Act by the House will likely (finally!) get this issue front and center for top executives at your company. Do you know what you'll say when you're asked, "Is this something we need to worry about? What's our plan if this becomes law?" Here's a good place to start if you're not sure. You can also schedule a free 30-minute call to help you figure out where your company is on the Left of Boom vulnerability map. Call us at 800-888-9115 to reserve your slot. |
