| What's on Sydney was wiped out by Malware!
On Sunday afternoon the server which hosts www.whatsonsydney.com was hit by malware which was possibly part of the Random virus which hit servers all over the world. As a consequence it wiped out our server, the website, plus backups and our emails. We woke up to this news on Monday morning, when the web hosts had finished their investigations. As the week went on our developer and the host company worked to retrieve files in the hope that they would work. Late Wednesday night I did some testing on the files that were found and to my relief it looked like we would be back in business. On Thursday, in the early evening, we managed to upload them to our new server and point our domain name to the new server too. It then takes up to 24 hours or more for the website to propagate around the world. As
far as I am aware all account details were secure and the malware was
more interested in deleting and scrambling what was on the server rather than stealing
information. If you have bought or thinking of buying tickets through us, I can assure you it is safe to do so as the security for this is very high and we link through to a third party Eway, so we hold no banking details.
The good news is that many of you have had the website for most of today, which is a relief as I know most of you will want to plan your weekend. Our emails are a work in progress, but hopefully they will be restored soon. If everything goes according to plan we will send out our weekly newsletter as usual on Sunday evening.
Thank you for your support and understanding.
If you have any questions, concerns or find something not working, as our emails are not working at the moment please email pbird@ticketwombat.com.
