Australia Day in Sydney

Sydney has so many events happening on Australia Day, you are going to find it hard to choose what to do.  There is a major change this year. The usual fireworks in Darling Harbour are not happening, but don't panic, they have just moved to Circular Quay. Find our more by reading on ..
We have been given some very special tickets to giveaway too. Not for Australia Day unfortunately, but they are worth highlighting in this newsletter.
In The City
7:30 am - The smoking ceremony
Aboriginal dancers and singers perform the Wugulora Morning Ceremony from 8am at Bangaroo Reserve.
During the performance the Aboriginal and Australian flags will be raised on the Sydney Harbour Bridge.
8 am - 10:30 am - OZ Day GIO Wheelchair Race
Get a glimpse of internationally acclaimed wheelchair athletes as they whizz by at exhilarating speeds.  Head to George Street in The Rocks and Hickson Road for the best vantage points.
Get in early to enjoy a free breakfast from 8am, courtesy of GIO. The BBQ is under the Cahill Expressway on George Street.
10:45 am - 11:30 am - The Sydney Ferrython
Sydney Harbour will make a splash with the annual Ferrython, one of Australia’s most popular and iconic free events. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the finishing line.
12 - 3 pm - Games and Roving Street Performers
Enjoy an array of events on George Street, The Rocks and The Market will be at Jack Mundey place 9 am - 3 pm
12:45 - 2 pm - Harbour Parade
Head down to the Harbour and watch the array of boats decorated in a show of colour and flags
1:00 - 1:45 pm - Tall Ship Race
These are the spots where you can watch the great tall ships as they race along the Harbour
Bradfield Park, Blues Point, Hickson Road Reserve, Overseas Passenger Terminal, Sydney Opera House
Between 2:00pm to 4:00pm Head to the Overseas Passenger Terminal and jump on board the Tall Ships for a gold coin donation. 
10:30 am - 5 pm - Vintage Buses
Hop on and off a Vintage Bus from Sydney Opera House to Wynyard and back, or hop on at any of the stops at Macquarie Street, Market Street, Clarence Street and Elizabeth Street. Make sure you give a gold coin donation in support of the Sydney Bus Museum.
The HSBC Sydney 7s Tournament
Whether you’re a rugby tragic who loves being part of the action, or just in it for the beer and banter – make sure you grab yourself a seat at the HSBC Sydney 7s Tournament from January 26-28.

Yabun
The Yabun Festival is the largest one day gathering and recognition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures in Australia. It is held annually on 26th of January on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people.
The Festival will start at 10 am with a Smoke Ceremony with Uncle Max Eulo at the Corroboree Ground which is hosted by Nathan Leslie and Juanita Duncan. After the ceremony there is a whole program of dance and entertainment.
Similarly, there is a huge line up of sounds on the Main Stage hosted by Sean Choolburra from 12 - 5.55 pm.
If you have children head to the Jarjum’s Tent where they can take part in a range of activities created just for them, including arts and crafts workshops, story telling performed by Aboriginal elders, and story book readings from Aboriginal authors and artists.
There will be a huge market where you can browse Indigenous themed items, including clothing, jewellery, arts and crafts, music, and more.
In the Yabun’s Speak Out Tent you will hear members of Sydney’s Indigenous community hold panel discussions on a range of issues. 
On the Green is an area geared for the sporting enthusiasts, where the NSW AFL and the NRL offer sports clinics, fun activities, games and a chance to meet Indigenous stars from both the NRL and AFL.
Taronga Zoo mobile will be talking about native animals 11 am - 12 pm.

- Check out the new Sydney Ferry Fleet, named after our great Australians and the Sunset ceremony including a tribute to Dr G. Yunupingu featuring Koomurri Dancers, plus fireworks

- Tribute to opera sung by Lorenzo Rositano and choir, accompanied by a yacht ballet, lighting display, jet skis and fireworks
From 9:00pm
– Special performance by an Australian music legend, plus drag artists from Broken Heel Festival AND fireworks

– Breathtaking finale, featuring a spectacular live musical medley of Australian classics synchronised with jet skis and fly boards  and culminating in massive fireworks display
