PIPA & PERCUSSION 
CONCERT

Distinguished musicians from the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) China will land in Sydney next month to kick off the Australian tour with their stunning concert Tales of the SilkRoad followed by Melbourne.
 
  • Top-level musicians from China: Distinguished Pipa master Zhang Hong-Yan together with other five top-level musicians from The Central Conservatory of Music (China) as well as its Plucked-String Orchestra will make their Australian debut in this concert.  
  • Multi-dimensional artistic enjoyment: Combining folk music, contemporary dance and exquisite stage set, the concert brings various Chinese traditional instruments together like Pipa, Ruan, percussion, giving audiences multi-dimensional artistic experience.
  • Cultural Adventure of Chinese Traditional Music: The concert explores Chinese masterpieces with strong ethnic features including Spring of Tian Mountain, Cockfight and Tales of the Silk Road. It is a perfect combination of Chinese traditional plucked instruments and percussion.
  • Exploring History via music: The Silk Road was an ancient network of trade routes connecting the East and West which for centuries was central to cultural interaction between them. This show aims to relive the life, customs and music during that period of time, representing the cultural exchange along the silk road.
Pipa: Zhang Hong-yan, attaining her Master’s degree from the Central Conservatory of Music, Zhang is an eminent Pipa virtuoso, Professor at the Central Conservatory of Music. Zhang has previously performed in some of the world’s most prestigious concert halls, including Carnegie Hall and the Lincoln Center (New York), the Berliner Philharmoniker, the Goldener Saal of Vienna’s Musikverein and the Kennedy Center (Washington).

Central Conservatory of Music is a world-renowned institute of music that represents the highest caliber of music education in China. CCOM has many distinguished alumni, such as the world’s top musicians Tan Dun and Lang Lang. Established in 2003, its Plucked-String Orchestra is a professional Chinese orchestra reaching a variety of audiences through live performances, recordings, TV and radio broadcasts. As one of the best traditional Chinese orchestras, they frequently tour  and collaborate with guest artists and arts organisations in Asia, America and Africa.Their album “Tug at China's Heartstrings” is listed in the permanent collection of The Library of Congress, United States.
