Subject: The Weakest Form Of Influence

Hey Friend,

I was talking to one of my best friends and business partners the other day and she was telling me about a friend of hers who discovered that her network marketing company was spying on her.

They had people opting into her pages and stalking her social media because they have rules against their reps marketing anything other than 'company approved' products & messages.

There are 2 HUGE problems with this.

First, this makes it so this lady has something that's WORSE than a job.

In a company like this, she has to work and earn like an entrepreneur but get treated like an enslaved employee.

If I could throw up in an email, I'd do that right here.

But the other HUGE problem with this type of 'influence' strategy that companies and leaders seem to like to use is this..

It's the weakest form of influence.

Napoleon Hill wrote in Think And Grow Rich that there are 2 types of leadership.

  1. Leadership by Force

  2. Leadership by Example

So many, in our world today, seem to like option 1 and they try to do anything and everything they can to control people

Control is a shortcut to influence and in my opinion, a weak one.

If you have people in your control, it makes it seem like “you got em!”

And if “you got em” you think you’ve relieved the burden of having to be a real leader which means you become the best, lead by example and serve your people with all your heart - so they’ll follow you because they want to and not because they have to.

The thing about most shortcuts though, they usually don’t get us what we think they get us.

With control, you may have people “locked in” but you’ll never have their respect or love.

I recently learned that the best service can’t be bought, it must be given.

People give their best out of love.

It’s hard or maybe even impossible to truly love a person or an organization that’s controlling you through fear or manipulation.

And this means, it seems to me at least, that these types of cultures and organizations will never really get the best of what people have to give.

My advice: FREE THE PEOPLE.

Love them, believe in them and lean into your best life with your best creations and let the ones who resonate with that join in and help you lead.

A much more fun, and rewarding way to do business and live.

Plus - it’s doesn’t feel ‘icky’ or ‘evil’.

All the best,

Paul
