My wife and I got to go and watch him play his high school baseball game.
Kayden made the Varsity team but so far hasn't seen much playing time in the varsity games, but they have him playing a lot in the JV games.
While we were watching the game, I overheard an interesting conversation between my wife and one of the other boys parents.
They were talking about how a couple freshman kids who seemed to be less talented, were both starting in the varsity games while more talented kids were riding the bench.
Here's the extra interesting part...
It just so happens that the dad's of these freshman kids are varsity coaches.
The lady next to us said it was sort of annoying that it seemed these coaches were playing favorites for the sons.
Who knows for sure if this is what's happening, but if it is.. it's called nepotism and it sucks.
My son and I were talking about this the other night and I told him a story from my days back in the job world.
I had a boss who was...hmmm... how shall I say this kind a kind way...
he was "Less than loved" by myself and most of the employees.
This just so happened to be the guy who told me once in an interview that I had no passion as he denied me a promotion I was seeking.
He was the director of the department I was working in and he was one of the most arrogant people I've ever met in my entire life, and most of the employees could see it too.
Guess who this 'boss' was?
He was the son of the company owner.
I remember how annoyed I was and how unjust and unfair this felt at the time.
I told my son all about it and how - this is just a fact of life you sometimes have to deal.
This is the sick truth about power.
But here's the thing, I went on to tell my son...
The beautiful truth about life is that you don't have to deal with that kind of stuff forever, if you don't want to.
I made a decision that I wasn't willing to put up with this kind of thing forever, and it's one of the big reasons I decided to start a business from home years ago.
I never wanted to be stuck in a box that someone else had put me in, especially when the person who put me there, had no real credibility or qualifications to do so.
This was a great reminder for me (and a lesson for my son at the same time) that entrepreneurship is the way to go, if you want to be free and control your own destiny.
