Ahhhh, doesn't that sound nice?
Jim Rohn said it this way “Success is not something you pursue, success is something you attract by the person you become.”
Here's the rub.
My lived experience in business tells me that there is truth to what Jim said, and that the same truth is expressed in the butterfly quote image above…
However, to me, it does feel like it's missing part of the story.
On my business journey I feel like I have both pursued and attracted.
I've set goals and “chased” them… Thankfully even caught a few.
I've invited many people to look at my products and businesses over the years… and in the process, made some friends, found some customers and business partners.
Was this “chasing” or “attracting” ?
I think it was a combination of both.
Success is good however it comes, and we are charged with creating it however we can.
I think we do need to chase our freedom, and yes, even pursue it.
In the process, however, work on building the most beautiful garden we can…
Grow flowers of goodwill in our hearts.
Make the sound of our words sing like music with better communication skills.
Fill our minds with the seeds of great ideas and experiences so we can be fields that produce abundantly, for anyone who wanders into our “plot of land.”
Learn to respect our own value, and judgement, as we respect the value and agency of others, thereby not crossing over from the art of the ‘pursuit,’ into the territory of the “stalker.”
As with nearly all clever little one liners, there’s usually more to the story.
Chase the good.
Pursue the worthy.
And yes, attract the butterflies 🦋 with the garden that’s created by your decision to seek the best that life has to offer for you.
All the best,
Paul
